My MMO

So I've been playing with some ideas for my ideal mmorpg and I thought I'd share them. The concept is pretty simplistic but it has a pretty deep backstory.

It takes place in a universe where an energy flow maintains all life (sort of like the lifestream). This flow comes from an unknown source but the universe is along its flow. The energy flows through it by entering at certain points in space and exiting at others. The setting for this game is a special world where the energy not only projects into our space but absorbs the flowing energy behind. This causes a struggle between opposing forces in the energy making it behave abnormally there. This abnormality brings about the force of magic as the energy manifests itself in all life on the planet. The opposing forces also manifest a rivalry in the people causing a struggle all over the world. However an old order hoping to create peace constructed a nexus for the exit flow to leave thus separating the two forces and calming the world. This plan failed and their construct shattered though morphing those of the order into nearly divine beings: the Igallias. These beings came to govern the energy flow of the world and by extension the forces of nature that they empowered (That'll be important later). The also calmed the world once again. With me so far?

The player is a mortal in this world. Your goal is to increase your power through your adventures and depending on the types of magic you use, you are morphed into one of the 8 races. The quests are designed to explore all aspects of the world and most involve hunting some mythical creature or finding artifacts so as to gain power from the kill or find. However, just like power can be gained, power can be lost. The types of magic are as follows:

Physical/Pyro: Magic revolving around adding to brute force or harnessing destructive energies. Also includes magic revolving around fire and heat

Reflex/Elemental: Magic revolving around light and ranged weapons. This magic allows for avoiding enemy attacks and countering. Reflex magic also helps to lock-on and increase the range of you ranged weapons. The elemental part is self explanatory.

Lifebased: This magic revolves around shields, healing and drains. Skilled magicians can even drain the life from an opponent and redirect it into a lethal force agains said (or other) opponent(s).

Supernatural: this magic revolves around puppetry, summonings and illusions. Puppetry means controlling parts of an enemies body to either hamper their fighting or bring voodoo like damage upon them. Summonings are self explanatory. Illusions however have many uses as possibly a distraction or a fog. Skilled users can even suppress the awareness of players and npc around them via invisibility among other methods.

Each magic has a positive and a negative side reflecting which energy you more follow however all alliances are made by players and npc are neutral.

This game would incorporate the guild system, (Not the classical so pay attention) meaning that rather than conventional towns throughout the majority of the world, there would be numerous small independent forts that can trade hands by purchase or conquest, forcing anyone who wanted one to make alliances with other players. These guilds would make good safe havens for passing players (Unless the owner refuses), trading centers and other strategic facilities and are upgradable (and destructible) via purchases made with the generated income (Destructible by battle). They can also be used to (Limitedly of course) create npc backup soldiers allowing players to create small armies and increasing the strength of the alliances made all the while forcing the players to be aware of their surroundings. The actual cities in the game would be filled with mini-guilds known as enclaves.

This game would also have a primary focus on creatures and locations. The locations would be designed to push the boundaries of real world physics and possibilities such as a mountain range the holds an oceans of clouds. These clouds not being actual water so that they the player wouldn't drown but thick and magical enough to allow creatures (and players) to float and giving the opportunity to hunt magnificent beasts half avian and half aquatic for new powers and possible mounts.

The mount system in this game would not revolve around purchase (Except the most basic) but rather skill as certain subdued creatures can be captured with leashes. They not only provide quick transportation but have the potential to be used as weapons by players. The spell being projected into them and released with greater accuracy and power.

There would also be an augmenting weapons possibility at forges found all over the world (even in the wild sometimes) so as to make them better outlets to your magic, or infusing them with the power of artifacts found (Or the powers found naturally in some of the natural forges). This reduces the need to continually buy weapons from stores as you could really add your own flare to your preferred equipment.

Ranged weapons would include bows, crossbows, javelins, throwing knives, throwing axes or hammers, and finally Muskets. All upgradable

There would be bosses and raids in the game such as the raid in the barren. Backstory: as the forces of nature manifested itself around the masters of the world, some became embodiments of destruction. So it was with the Barren One. The negative forces of the energy manifested itself into this once great and noble warrior. He became a source of ungrowth and pestilence bringing jeopardy to all the Igallias fought to protect. To serve their duty, the Igallias reluctantly imprisoned their former ally beneath the surface under guard and severed the area from the rest of the world. There, his pestilence created a vast desert dry and of intense heat which would become home to the industrious Anuidin in their shining city of Aogthanal. The guardians of this beast now threaten the desert operations of the Anduidin and so they make a request. Go into the tomb and liberate the guards of their cursed duty. Destroy the Barren One so that peace may come to their broken land and you'll be handsomely rewarded. Process: The player would have to travel into the desert lands of the Anuidin to the great temple among the sand and dust. Once they arrive they must travel inside and fight the cursed creatures within in order to find the Anuidin command post, a small area in which they have found a way around the main defenses by lowering you into the tomb to face the Barren One. Other raids and dungeons are found throughout the world.

I'll update as ideas keep coming
